Playing The Oaks Golf Links Tomorrow!
Tomorrow I will be teeing it up with a couple buddies over at the The Oaks Golf Links. I haven't played The Oaks this year but it is one of my favorite places to play in the South East region of New Hampshire.
The course offers a challenging and diverse layout spanning just over 6,000 yards from the blues and providing over 6,700 yards from the tips. Although the yardage at a glance does not seem overwhelming when you finish up your round you will feel like the course has played much longer. For starters there are several holes where hazards take driver out of play for the long hitters. In these situations you are left with a mid to long iron into the green. Also there are a couple challenging par 3's that depending on the pin placement can make for a real challenge.
The greens are typically in great shape and run real smooth. During some of the drier weeks of the summer they can get moving real fast! My favorite thing about playing at this course though is being able to use there Preferred Players System for free. Every time you play you get to save and the rates end up being really reasonable. Also if you have a college ID you get to save quite a bit of money too! Totally recommend checking it out!! More to come after tomorrows round.

Masters Friday--Lightning in the Sky
Will Friday hold a thunderous roar from the crowd or from the Sky? Will Tiger blaze a trail through Augusta? My bet is for both. Call it aggressive but I think Tiger will shoot a 66 or better. I expect him to be within the top 5 on the leader-board below. I wish my DVR could record 6+ hours of golf!

Masters Weekend! Who Will Take The 2009 Green Jacket?
With Masters weekend upon us and golf courses opening up around the state daily things are starting to heat up in the golf world. Will this be another green jacket for the Tiger? Or will we see the unknown hero rise to the challenge? Better question, can the unknown hero rise to the challenge in the face of Tiger? Who do you think will win?
You should check out the cool course tour on ESPN for the front nine and back nine at Augusta. The course looks incredibly tight even when there isn't thousands and thousands of fans lining each fairway and green. I would be happy hitting 25% of the fairways and just two or three greens in regulation, breaking 100 sounds good to me.

Spring Golf in New Hampshire:
With a high of just 29 degrees today it was hard to remember that we are 3 days into the meteorological start of spring. Thank god the forecast is looking better for the rest of the week.
Speaking of cold, yesterday was forecasted to be in the lower 50's and it only reached the low 40's with a stiff wind of about 15-25mph. That didn't stop me and one of my buddies from heading out to play though! We ended up playing this track called Far Corner Golf Club in West Boxford Massachusetts. I had never heard of the place before and without even checking out the website prior to the round I was expecting the worst.
After bundling up in a couple extra layers and paying the $40 winter green fee we headed out to the blustery first tee. The course offers 27 holes and we opened up on a nine called the "Fox". The first hole was slight dogleg to the left par 5 that played fairly easy. A good drive will give you a fairly good shot at getting the green in two. The conditions weren't too bad..., the ground was a bit on the soft side and the greens were like trying to read Phil Hellmuth in a heads up game of poker. I don't think I got more than two putts beyond the hole all day.
We had to cut the round short after 9 because it was playing real slow and it was downright cold. The course was surprisingly interesting and I am definitely going to give it another shot once the conditions get better. I think they jumped the gun a little bit with the open date. There was one hole that had 6 inches or more of snow lining the entire left side. It is a little hard to get yourself when you could literally go sledding.
One beast of a hole was the par 3 6th. Since half of it was snow covered our tee was moved way up but normally the tees are back 238 yards from the front of the green if you are playing the tips. Not to mention you have to carry a pond leading up to the green and when the pin is back left you have to bend it in amongst some trees. Seems like it could be a real disaster when the wind is blowing.
I am keeping my fingers crossed this weekend will be the first round in the granite state in 2009! Lets go warmth!
